Baby Petti Romper

I fell in love with the very first Petti Romper I saw! So I told hubby that I was going to make baby girl one... and he thought, "Okay, I guess she'll do that eventually..." only he was surprised to find that I made one that very day! :P
All that you need for this is:
-A white baby onesie one size bigger than your baby wears
- White elastic band
-Lots of white lace (or something like a table cloth or curtains made out of lace... which is what I used)

 

Remember: Use a onesie one size bigger than what your baby wears, because with all the layers of lace sewn on, the fabric isn't as stretchy anymore. Plus, you need it longer because you will cut off the sleeve part.  Cut one side of the onesie along the hem so that it will look similar to the picture below. Then cut off the sleeve part in a straight line. You need just one "rectangle" so you can sew the strips of lace in line straight line. You will sew it together again after you are done with the lace strips.





Sew it all together! Sew the elastic on & sew the sides together. 


 

It's DONE! :)

Now go and take 354 pictures of your baby girl in her new  petti romper! (no, I didn't take 354 pictures... welllllll...) :)

    1. I actually cut up some lacy fabric into strips... but an estimate based on the amount of rows I did (which totally depends on how scrunchy you want yours to be), I would say 4 yards would be safe. You could probably even do it under that amount.

      15 rows at 10" wide each= 4 yds

      I did use a sewing machine, but you don't have to have one to make one!

      It isn't a two piece (I know from the top picture it may seem like it, but I just cut off the top from the bottom so I could sew the strips of lace on easier onto a rectangle and then sewed them together again) But I can see it being a two piece too (a ruffle top with a ruffled diaper cover!)

  8. I pinned an outfit like this about a month ago, it is so great that you made this tutorial, thank you so much, now I just have to go out and make myself another baby, just kidding. I will try to take your instructions to make one for my 2 1/2 year old daughter for next summer. Your baby girl is adorable.

  10. Did you cut the bottom off and then sew it back on after you put the lace on?

    1. Yes! I also added a layer or two of lace to the bottom though too. It just made it easier for me to sew because mine was didn't have snaps. But you don't have to cut the bottom off if it's a snaps one.

    1. Yes, I just used a generic white elastic for the top so it would hold up. Just don't make it too tight. :)

  14. And... I know you said you did 10" long rows, but how wide were they? 10"x?

    1. Sewing a tunnel around the lace is a great idea!

      As far as the lace strips, they were about 10" long and maybe like 1.5" wide. But how long and wide you want the lace to be depends on how ruffly you want the lace to be. I would personally play around with it and come up with your own estimate according to your supplies.
